We were pleased to have another apprentice join us for one week to complete a training practicum. We are fortunate in Saskatchewan to have the quality, and availability of trade training in our Apprenticeship program. For a couple of years now, we have supplied bursaries to top performing individuals in our trades. It is a pleasure to engage driven individuals who are focused on skills and career development.

We feel it is our responsibility within our Atlas Team to see everyone developing at every level in our organization. This includes everyone from new hires to my position. It comes with some pressure, and expectation when we are peer reviewed, and have a written list of goals and growth areas, but accountability performs in a positive way as our team grows in strength both as individuals, and as a team. Sponsoring trade excellence aligns very well with this value of development.

We have a couple of staff who are dual ticketed journeymen, and others working toward it while we have yet to see one of our staff attain a 3rd ticket, but we look forward to celebrating these milestones.

When apprentices join us for one week’s practicum, we strategically arrange a broad range of exposure, typically of processes that they may not have seen, or experienced before. This comes at a cost as we pair the Apprentice with our top skilled staff with the goal of training over accomplishment, but we feel that is the goal of the apprenticeship.

Our trades greatest performers are those that have the skills of critical thinking, and problem solving. We believe our Saskatchewan Apprenticeship Program develops these skills when working in symbiotic partnership with industry leaders.

We, as a team, would like to Congratulate Evan Lavoie on completing his training and finishing at the top of his class.

Below is a picture of Evan with a project he partnered on to roll some 1.25” plates in our 4-roll machine. WELL-DONE!
