A production shop stocks dies for the sizes and radii it runs every day. When your drawing falls outside that set, the shop faces a choice: buy or build tooling for a single job, or pass. For a one-off or short run, passing is the rational call.
The same economics apply to mandrel and wiper-die setups for thin-wall tube, to heavy-wall material that exceeds a machine’s comfortable capacity, and to long gradual sweeps that don’t fit rotary-draw tooling at all.

- No allowance for springback
- Thin-wall tube specified without mandrel or wiper-die support, which causes wrinkling or collapse
- Wall thinning on the outside of the bend ignored in a flow-critical or pressure application
- Pipe size (NPS) confused with tube OD in the spec
Most of these take five minutes to catch and would have cost weeks after delivery. If the bend is outside what we can hold, we say so up front rather than at inspection.
