If you run a fabrication shop in Edmonton, Nisku, or Leduc, you likely already handle a large volume of CNC pipe and tube bending. Atlas offers a relief valve. This article breaks down what to do when your bender is booked solid, a job calls for tooling you don’t carry, or a customer spec lands outside your capacity.
Atlas Industries provides CNC tube and pipe bending from ¼” to 4”, mandrel bends, and large radius elbows out of our custom metal fabrication facility in Saskatoon. We’ve been forming metal since 1974, and we’ve been shipping product to Alberta for over 50 years. Freight to the Edmonton area can be as fast as next-day delivery.
The quiet subcontractor model: your customer, your job, our bends
The arrangement is simple. You send the piece of the job you can’t run, and it comes back ready to weld, or already welded if you want. Your customer relationship stays yours. Atlas works as a quiet subcontractor behind your shop.
It’s a channel built on straight talk. Weldfab, one of the fab shops we work with, put it this way in a recent testimonial:
Atlas gives “good, honest advice on what solutions are available.”
If a bend is outside what we can hold, you hear that at quoting, not at inspection. If your own shop is the better place to run it, we’ll say so.
When Edmonton shops might consider sending work to Atlas
The typical triggers:
- Your bender is booked and the deadline isn’t moving. Atlas absorbs the bending portion so the rest of the job stays on your floor and on schedule.
- The spec calls for tooling you don’t carry. Mandrel work on thin-wall tube, an unusual radius, or a die set that isn’t worth buying for one job.
- The part needs more than a bend. Because bending runs alongside full plate forming, welding, beveling, and finishing under one roof, a part that needs multiple operations doesn’t have to make stops at three different shops.
A team of journeymen across four trades handles design, forming, welding, beveling, and transport in-house, from drawing to delivery.
Logistics: Saskatoon to Edmonton, Nisku, and Leduc
Overflow capacity only works if the out-of-town shop doesn’t cost you the schedule you were on. Alberta is a core territory for Atlas. Freight to the Edmonton area can be as short as next-day delivery, and Atlas arranges transport as part of the job. Lead time depends on the size of the job and the current shop queue, and we quote it honestly before you commit.
Everything ships from a single facility in Saskatoon, so every part is formed under the same roof and the same ISO 9001:2015 quality system, with CWB certified welding when the job includes weldments.

FAQs: Tube and pipe bending for Edmonton fabricators
What is the rule of thumb for tube bending?
A common rule of thumb is to keep the centerline bend radius at least 2 to 3 times the tube’s outside diameter. Tighter radii, thin walls, or unusual materials often call for mandrel bending, where an internal mandrel supports the tube through the bend to prevent collapse.
What are the problems associated with bending tubing?
The usual problems are wrinkling on the inside of the bend, flattening or ovality, wall thinning on the outside radius, springback, and kinking on tight radii. Proper tooling, mandrel support, and CNC-controlled bending address most of them, which is why difficult bends belong with a shop set up for them.
Will my customer know Atlas did the bending?
Only if you tell them. Atlas works as a subcontractor to your shop: your customer, your job, our bends. Parts come back ready to weld or fully welded, your choice.
How fast can you get parts to Edmonton?
Freight to Alberta can be as fast as next-day delivery. Total turnaround depends on job size and shop queue, quoted up front.
